Preserving Lessons

Ever wanted to learn how to preserve food?  Well now you can can!

Whether you need a refresher or are a complete newbie, this is a great idea to preserve the bounty of your garden, CSA share, or local farmstand.  Buy food when its cheap and enjoy through the  winter when the taste of a fresh tomato is but a distant memory for others.

Private Lessons cover the entire process of one recipe from start to finish and take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours, depending on the agreed upon recipe.

Have “A Preserving Soiree” with 1-4 of your friends and cut own on individual costs while having fun.  It is a great opportunity to get together with others and learn about canning.  This evening covers the entire process of one recipe from start to finish and take anywhere from 3 to 5 hours, depending on the agreed upon recipe.  Not to mention that everyone will go home with something of their own and a handy ‘cheat sheet’ of important things to remember when canning on their own.

Instruction

  • A private lesson is $100 for a 3 hours or less (includes one hour of prep time prior to beginning), there is a $35 per hour charge per additional hour
  • For a group lesson 3 hours or less (includes one hour of prep time prior to beginning) and costs $50 per person with a minimum of two, and up to 5 people. There is a $10 per hour charge per participant for each additional hour.  For a 5 participant lesson one of the participants is free.

Cost of materials (the food to preserve and canning jars) is in addition and is recommended that you pick them up.

Hour-long Troubleshooting Sessions and Pep Talks are also available in case you need to talk through the process, ideas, or simply to go over your questions; these cost $35.

A deposit of $35 is required to hold a date and time and can be paid by check or through paypal.  While the date can be adjusted up to 4 days in advance , any change or cancellation after results in a $35 charge (yes, that exactly equals what was paid in advance.)
